There is also an extremely long and storied history of excellent athletes to walk the halls of Oatlands college. In particular there have been many excellent Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) players. Some of the more famous Dublin players of the past 10 years have been former students. Paul Griffin and Rory O’Carroll spring to the forefront of the mind also players like Nicky Devereux, Ross O’Carroll have played and been members of the Dublin Gaa panel in recent years as well. One particularly impressive feat would be that in 2011 when Dublin won the Sam Maguire Cup there were five past pupils involved in the panel, 4 players in Ross and Rory O’Carroll, Paul Griffin and Nicky Devereux and a selector by the name of Paddy O’Donoghue. Not too many schools in Dublin that can lay claim to that sort of success. There have also been athletes come to fore in other sports two of the more notable being Paddy Kavanagh a successful soccer player and Kenny Carroll who has represented Ireland at many age groups in cricket.
